The World Association of Puppetry and Storytelling Arts invites you to a summer conference

Wisdom, Wonder, and Enchantment

July 28th-31st, 2022, a hybrid event

"The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper." - Yeats

Dear Friends,

Warm greetings as we enter the last weeks of winter here in the northeast! As the lure of warmer weather calls us to dream into summer, our conference committee has been active in the planning of our conference this July!

It is our great hope to be safely weaning ourselves of pandemic protocols with courage for the future... Thus, our summer conference will have 2 dimensions - an in-person gathering at Hawthorne Valley Waldorf School in upstate New York, as well as an on-line option with live-streaming of talks, workshops, and performances. In this way the conference will be available to all who feel, as we do, that children need the wonder and wisdom of the world of fairytales now more than ever.

The theme of our conference this year is Wisdom, Wonder, and Enchantment. The exploration of Enchantment's metaphors has been particularly interesting in relation to the trends we see in society since the pandemic... What is the relationship between a "spell" and "enchantment"? How does one lose free will in the process of an enchantment, and what helps the individual to regain the powers of self-determination? So many stories world-wide hold images of enchantment - a state of disconnect from the willing, feeling, and thinking of the true self. The journey towards enchantment's release is one of transformation and initiation.

We hope that you will join us in this collaborative arts exploration. Your participation is essential as we join together with the joy of networking within our community of storytellers and puppetry artists. Stay tuned for more details.

With love and gratitude,

Janene
