The Healing Tools of Waldorf Education, with Dr. Michaela Gloeckler
Monday, June 26 - Friday, June 30, 2017,.
Morning Lecture: The Five Pillars of Healthy Development in Childhood and Youth
Health is not a stable state - it is fragile, because human beings are permanently developing and in transition. They are vulnerable, not only in childhood, but throughout life.
Health is emerging out of the ongoing battle between influences on human nature which cause disorder and illness, and the body's own resources of restoring and healing. Each day has its own particular health condition. Dr. Gloeckler will describe the main principles of Illness and Healing and how they are met by Waldorf Education. She will also integrate questions and concerns from participants.
Afternoon Offering: How do we meet the needs of the individual child?
How do we learn to "read" the needs of the child? What tools does Waldorf Education use in the daily practice of the classroom to support and promote a child's health? How can we understand and positively counterbalance the inclination of today's children towards eating disorders, aggression, depression, anxiety, lack of concentration and disposition toward addiction?
How do we manage the inclusion of children with special needs into our classrooms?
The Social Art of the Waldorf Early Childhood Teacher
Monday, July 3 - Friday, July 7, 2016
In today's technological world, the quality of our human relationships is even more important than ever. The Early Childhood teacher works, not only with the children in her classroom to model healthy relationships, but also with parents and colleagues in significant ways. Rudolf Steiner spoke about the various arts in relation to human development and referred to social art as the highest form of art. In this intensive, we will explore how to more effectively practice the social arts in our relations with the children, in working with parents, in our collaboration with colleagues, and in building a sense of community within the school.
Our main theme will be enhanced by courses in improvisational theater games, where we learn how to listen and support one another in a playful way, and in watercolor painting, where we will explore the connection between feelings and the world of color. We will also work with colored wool in our hand work course.
We invite you to join us at Sound Circle Center this summer. All offerings are held at the Seattle Waldorf School, High School Campus. Click on the links above for detailed course descriptions, faculty bios or to register. "Earlybird" discount registration available until May 7, 2017!
