Sloka - The Steiner School in Hyderabad, India

This school is the first of its kind in India. It was launched by the Education Renaissance Trust - a non-profit organization run by a group of people who wanted to spark off change among teachers and concerned parents who shared a dream about their children. Their aim was to start a school that had sensitivity and a deeper understanding of the child. As the Trust searched for a well-proven alternative system, the Steiner Waldorf School seemed to be the answer. These schools have flourished the world over for over 90 years with a sound pedagogical backing and philosophy.

The Education Renaissance Trust is part of an international movement in education. There are over 1000 Steiner schools worldwide. Each one is adapted to the character of its location and seeks to meet the educational needs of our time. Steiner education offers a broad and balanced curriculum which aims to educate the hand, the heart, the intellect and foster cultural, moral and spiritual values.

The Child is the Center Steiner education is multidimensional, appealing to all the faculties. For the young child, it is the 'all' that matters, rather than exceptional proficiency in one aspect. We want rounded, complete and balanced personalities whose special gifts are nourished from a fuller source. Steiner education is truly a part of a universal understanding of the child. It is applicable to each child, irrespective of the child's cultural roots, language, religious beliefs or geographical setting. Anthroposophy - the knowledge of the human being - is the basis of Steiner education.
