From David Sewell McCann
There are many reasons why this Advent season of light seems particularly poignant. The world seems less stable than it used to, and we often doubt our capacity and resilience as caregivers, parents, and teachers of young people.
Yet, they need our confident presence, our calm steadiness and enthusiastic delight more than ever. In my experience as an educator of children and adults, storytelling can bring the consciousness and agency we crave. It quietly builds an inner-knowing and readiness to meet the world as it is, rather than how we wish it to be. Storytelling tools work well beyond the narrow scope of a main lesson or nap time imagination. Storytelling happens all day long and every day, in all our interactions and also in our time alone. We tell stories. We listen to stories. It is what people do. I’d like to invite you into a daily practice during this Advent that will bring you renewal, a deeper connection to your storytelling self, and regular revelation about what is truly unfolding at the end of 2024.
I have been delivering pedagogical stories to families for 15 years through Sparkle Stories, and in the last five years I’ve been teaching parents, leaders, and educators how to read the listener and then create transformative content very quickly. I have a daily practice for any of you who might want to be held during a season where you do so much holding. It is free and easy. Every day you’ll receive a message from me that includes a page of journaling and drawing prompts, a recorded video lesson on restorative storytelling, and then an invitation to join me in live 30 minutes of intuitive storytelling. There are no commitments and you can engage as much as you like. And if you come to the daily live events, it will be nice to meet you! Join the free practice with this link.
