“Traumatized children and adolescents require stable and competent teachers schooled in diagnosing and averting disorders brought on by physical and emotional trauma. Emergency pedagogy provides immediate support to children and youth in the acute phase after traumatic events.” — Bernd Ruf, Waldorf Educator and Traumatology Expert
In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, Emergency Pedagogy USA is mobilizing to provide critical support to affected children, families, and communities.
The team, comprising Bernd Ruf, and certified Waldorf educators trained in Emergency and Trauma Pedagogy, will travel to Asheville at the end of October to offer a four-day intervention aimed at helping local communities recover from the emotional and psychological impact of the disaster. We will be working with local efforts in Asheville, and Bernd Ruf will support educators and parents with important trauma education.
About Emergency Pedagogy
Emergency Pedagogy is a specialized field developed to support children and adolescents in the aftermath of traumatic events, preventing the onset of PTSD and promoting long-term healing. Bernd Ruf, founder of The Emergency Pedagogy Center in Karlsruhe, Germany, has led over 130 global crisis interventions since 2006, and his work forms the foundation of this effort.
In the summer of 2022, the Kairos Institute at the Center for Anthroposophy in Wilton, NH began offering training in Emergency and Trauma Pedagogy. Educators across the country have since completed certified modules, enabling them to respond to crises like the one caused by Hurricane Helene. With three years of training now complete, these dedicated professionals are ready to serve communities in need.
Why We Need Your Help
Urgent funding is required to deploy the Emergency Pedagogy Team USA to Asheville and other areas affected by climate change and other disasters. Your contributions will help cover airfare, transportation, and the supplies necessary to support these interventions. Most of this Team USA are volunteers, but we need help bringing in professional Emergency Pedagogy leaders.
