Foundation Studies Courses in Anthroposophy

Online Courses ~ Independent Studies

Art and the world-view of Anthroposophy

A modern path of knowledge and self-development

New courses starting on an individual basis

Learn at your own pace

The online Foundation Courses in Anthroposophy and the Arts is structured in such a way that students can learn at their own pace. Upon enrollment in the course you will be assigned a mentor who will work with you, guiding and assisting you as needed and wanted. Your mentor will be available throughout the duration of the course and will answer your questions and work with you on completing the course material. The lessons are set up in sequential order and you will need to read, study and work on exercises and assignments. It will be up to you how much time and effort you will put into this learning experience. For instance you will be able to go through periods of intense study and artistic work, and at other times proceed at a very slow pace, or even “take some time off” and return to the studies at a later date.

The Foundation Studies Courses in Anthroposophy and the Arts are adult education courses based on the Anthroposophical Foundation Courses offered by the Waldorf Teacher Training Centers in North America. Participants can earn a Foundation Study certificate. The course is designed to meet the needs of those individuals who want to develop their artistic abilities, and acquaint themselves with, or deepen their understanding of the basic world-view of Anthroposophy brought by Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925). The achievements inspired by Anthroposophy can be seen today throughout the modern world. It is attracting those people who wish to work out of new impulses in the fields of agriculture, the arts, education, curative education, social therapy, and medicine. Foundation Studies in Anthroposophy and the Arts, while providing a background for those wishing to become teachers in Waldorf Schools, also offers the opportunity to others who are interested in learning more about how they may work in the world, guided by a foundation in Anthroposophy. In the Foundation Studies Courses broad themes of the essential nature of the human being and human development are taken up on many different levels. The courses concern themselves with the study of evolving consciousness and personal growth, artistic activities, guided studies, and workshops.

Part 1 (Semester 1):

Students will be able to fulfill the requirements at their own pace. Foundation Studies include a variety of independent studies and study courses. Foundation Studies students are encouraged to include a variety of artistic independent studies, with the aim to learn about the different arts, and about the influence of Anthroposophy that has enriched, and transformed traditional art forms, and created new ones, like Eurythmy. Students will be responsible to set up and complete their independent art courses with qualified individuals. Often artistic courses are offered at Waldorf schools, Waldorf conferences, or through local groups connected to a Waldorf school. Students interested in  receiving credits for the independent art courses, need to seek out opportunities to attend workshops, group sessions, or individual sessions. In some circumstances students might seek out the opportunity to work independently, if no workshops, group sessions or individual sessions are available in their location. Students interested in  receiving credits need to obtain certificates of attendance/statements about sessions attended and skills acquired, from the respective group leaders or workshop leaders.

"I have really enjoyed this experience with you as I have grown so much with the course's support.  This opportunity came exactly when I needed it and it served me so well as to enable me to get my dream job.  Thank you so much for your supporting role throughout ... the assignments were very thought provoking and only further inspired my response to Steiner's writings ... I have recommended the course to many who are interested in becoming Waldorf teachers or who are just interested in learning more about Steiner.  Thank you again for a life changing experience." - online foundation courses student

"I am very grateful that I had the opportunity to study the courses with you. As a teacher you improved to a large extent the depth of my studies and the security, as I felt held and supported during my studies. And I did travel on some roads I would otherwise have  left untouched. I do think the online work has some advantages like privacy or leaving many other spiritual elements out of the picture, so just the essential ones are at work. In the face-to-face classes you do have interaction with other students, that enrich the experience very much, but it can also create difficulties in transparency and objectiveness in the process. I would at any time be happy to do the same studies with other people, either via internet or in a face-to-face environment, as I think there are many other things to be experienced every time we study with another human being, or in another time of our life. I thank you very much for your patience and guidance, and encourage your work, with love ... " (online Foundation Course graduate)
